HAYDEN LOWER LOOP | YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK

Full Day Tour
This tour is named for the Hayden expedition that traveled through this area of Yellowstone in 1871. It took them all summer to travel through the park, we will see the lower loop in one day!
Travel from Cody through the beautiful Wapiti Valley to the East entrance of the park. This tour will take you to Old Faithful geyser and along the way you will see Yellowstone Lake, Lake Hotel, Fishing Bridge, West Thumb, the Continental Divide, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Lower Falls (biggest waterfall in park) and the Hayden Valley which is world renown for its wildlife.

WASHBURN UPPER LOOP | YNP
Available early May to late October
Full Day Tour
This tour is named for the Washburn/Langford/Doane expedition that traveled through this area of Yellowstone in 1870. This expedition recognized the need for this area to be preserved for future generations. Entering the Park via the scenic and historic Chief Joseph Highway and the NE Entrance, we will see the famed Lamar Valley, called The Serengeti of North America. Then we’ll follow the upper loop to Mammoth Hot Springs and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Depending upon your interests, we will either follow the Washburn Expedition route over the mountain named for the General and retrace our path through the Lamar, or continue south through Hayden Valley and exit the Park through the East Entrance on our way back to Cody.

WILDLIFE EXPEDITIONS

This tour is offered in Yellowstone and the surrounding area around Cody. Grub Steak Expeditions has been in the tour business since 1902. Consequently we have local connections not found anywhere else. We know ranchers, wildlife managers, and outfitters that will provide current information on the best viewing opportunities, such as when the bears are in the moth fields, spawning trout, and wolf pack activities. You might see bison, elk, deer, black bears, grizzly bears, wolves, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, fox, coyote, bald eagles and much more.
We have a great rapport with park staff who are willing to give us the inside scoop. So whether we are touring inside the park, other public lands, or private property, we can provide the best wildlife tour available.

BIG HORN CANYON EXPEDITION
Available Year-Round
Administered by the National Park Service, this park is a hidden gem, with views that are similar to a mini-Grand Canyon. It has a colorful history including paths blazed by Paleo-Indians, the era of mountain men, and the pioneers that followed. We will be viewing buffalo jumps, historical homesteads, and a host of eccentrics who lived out extraordinary lives in this area. This park offers great wildlife viewing such as bighorn sheep, deer, antelope, and wild Mustangs.

NATIVE TRACES AND DINOSAUR TRACKS EXPEDITION

Did you ever think you could see real dinosaur footprints? We can take you to see Native American tipi rings, fire pits and cliff drawings left by Paleo-Indians in the high desert that surrounds the Cody area. A great trip for kids and adults alike.

MCCULLOUGH PEAKS WILD HORSE EXPEDITIONS
Available Year-Round
Travel east from Cody to the McCullough Peaks (May - Oct.) or to Bighorn Canyon National Park to see wild horses and other wildlife including numerous pronghorns. We will continue east to Shell to visit the Dinosaur tracks and fossils. This trip can offer two options at this point. You can either visit Native American petroglyphs or travel through the Big Horn Mountains to Shell Falls and the scenic canyons. We should have you back in Cody in time for a leisurely evening meal!

**Please note, travel through the backcountry is not without risk. The Yellowstone Ecosystem contains some truly wild country. Groups of three or more adults (including your guide) are recommended.

JOHN COLTER BEARTOOTH EXPEDITION
Available June to Late September
Depart Cody at 7:30 am and travel over the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. On this route you will see incredible geological formations to include Absaroka lava formations, sedimentary formations and the results of the glacial periods. This is one of our most scenic tours and includes panoramas and vistas to delight the visitors and photographers with spectacular views.
The tour includes the Sunlight Basin, Upper Clark’s Fork of the Yellowstone River, Historic Cooke City (old mining town) and Beartooth Mountains which have some of the most scenic high alpine meadows, lakes and glaciers in America. The wildflowers are in their prime in July and August. Then we will travel on to Red Lodge, Montana and travel along the eastern front of the Beartooth Mountains, returning to Cody at approximately 5:00 pm.

SOUTHFORK EXPEDITION
Available All Year
Depart Cody and travel up the Southfork of the Shoshone River for spectacular views of Carter Mountain, Castle Rock, and picturesque mountains and valleys . We will cross the historic Cody Salsbury canal which brought the first water and irrigation to the Cody area. We will be driving through the TE foothills, which were part of Bill Cody’s former cattle ranch as well as other historic and majestic ranches. Wildlife in this area is abundant, consequently we recommend that this tour be taken at either dawn or dusk.

We feel it's important for us to create a personalized itinerary for each private tour based on our guests interests. Public tours are pre established itineraries and cannot be deviated from.

The Beartooth Highway climbs to the pass at 11,000 feet and along the way you'll see lodgepole forests, alpine lakes, 20 peaks over 12,000 feet, and wildlife galore. Glacially carved cirques, wildflowers, grizzly bears, and mountain goats are your typical Beartooth Highway tour, but the spectacular waterfalls off the beaten path is a tour highlight.

Most of our guides are either natives to this area, or have spent decades here. They are knowledgeable not only about what is in the area, but also where to find the critters and plants. Having the local connection gets us the inside info on what is going where and when, information not available unless the locals know you.

Bighorn Canyon can be a half day or whole day tour that includes stunning canyon views, historic homesteads/ranches, wild horses, and Bighorn Sheep.

Our guides are trained by the park service, red cross, and our training program. They have the knowledge and skills to keep our guests safe, whether it's viewing dangerous wildlife, hiking around mud pots more acidic than battery acid, or standing at the brink of a 300 foot waterfall, our customers safety is our primary consideration.

Because Cody Country is so diverse, we can operate year round. Although some of our public agencies permits do not allow year round access, we can provide wildlife, scenic photography, hiking, and wild horse tours all year long.

The private tours will pick you up at your lodging, or wherever you specify. The public tours may require you to meet at a common pick-up location.

Customizing each tour is our specialty. Depending on the season, time of day, or wildlife migration routes, we have the most up to date local information to strategically place our customers at the best locations depending on their individual special interests.

The tour package includes a hearty lunch, snacks, and water. At the time of booking you will be requested to fill out a lunch order.

We recommend guests book 6 months to a year in advance. Our cancellation policy is designed to protect our guides who have a limited season to make a living. Their schedules are set months in advance and last-minute cancellations are difficult to rebook. A deposit of 50% of the tour is due at booking that is fully refundable 30 days prior to the first day of your reservation. Cancellations after 30 days will forfeit the deposit. Full payment for the tour is due 7 days prior to the reservation and cancellations after 7 days will forfeit entire tour costs.
