There’s so much to see in the Greater Yellowstone Area from all the attractions in the park to the classical beautiful western vistas.
Can you fit it all in your vacation schedule?
You bet you can if you use Cody as your vacation base and we’ll make sure you make the best vacation memories of your trip to the Northwest corner of Wyoming. Here’s why:
1. The East Gate is not only incredibly scenic, it also has less traffic than other entrances.
That means you spend less time in lines of traffic and more time actually seeing Yellowstone starting with Sylvan Pass and Sylvan Lake.
2. Cody has art galleries to browse through and a world-class museum that is actually five museums in one.
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West is often referred to as the Smithsonian of the West. Your entrance fee covers two days because it can take that long to get through it all.
3. The Beartooth Highway is legendary and makes a good day’s drive.
Learn more of the history and geology of this area east of Yellowstone with a trip to what is arguably the most scenic drive in America.
4. You can stay in historic hotels.
Buffalo Bill’s Irma Hotel is home to the rosewood bar which was a gift from Queen Victoria which is only part of its long history. At the Chamberlin Inn, you can stay in the same suite writer Ernest Hemingway stayed or you can even stay at the reportedly haunted Lockhart Inn, the home of noted author, Caroline Lockhart.
5. Cody is where the “real west” is still alive and kicking and just a way of life.
It’s not unusual to see cowboys with spurs on as you walk along Sheridan Avenue (the Main Street). Stores announce they’re open when they put the American Flag out each morning. Catch a bus to see the Cody Nite Rodeo where famed singer and bull rider Chris LeDoux got his start. Visit Old Trail Town to see authentic historic western buildings from this area and pay your respects to Jeremiah Johnson who’s buried here. To add to this you can even shoot a real Gatling Gun (and more) at the Cody Firearms Experience.
Many folks put Cody at the end of their vacation only to learn they’ve missed a gem of a vacation spot by not scheduling in enough time because there’s just so much to do right here in the Cody area.
